This entire website involves the plight of atheists in the military. These men and women have rights, and those rights should be respected. There is no reason why atheists willing to be in the military should be subjected to crap like this.
I’m not sure I really see the problem with not having Humanist as an option as a religious preference. It’d be kind of like having football fan, feminist, food enthusiast, animal rights activist, pro-life, or pro-choice on there. Atheists, just like non-atheists, agree to give up many of their rights—or have them limited/re-shaped—when they agree to join the military. It makes perfect sense to me to mark an actual religion or to indicate a lack of belief in gods on a form asking you your religious preference; not so much sense to me to use it for things not pertaining to religion.
