Tumbling Atheist
Rather than waste money trying to ban abortion, why not…

femmewave:

  1. Adopt a child.
  2. Fund contraception.
  3. Support free healthcare.
  4. Donate to charities that work to eradicate childhood diseases.
  5. Donate to Amnesty International, so they can get innocent people off Death Row.
  6. Donate your time to working with the hungry / homeless.
  7. Knit blankets for *wanted* preemie babies.
  8. Support people who miscarry. They might actually need it.
  9. Fight domestic abuse with all your might.
  10. Search for and work with any organisations that support troubled children.

Number 7? Why not knit blankets for unwanted premature babies, too? That’s an odd inclusion.

The answer to this question of “why not this, instead of…” is simple and self evident. If someone truly believes that innocent babies are being killed during an abortion, what kind of person would they be to not have a thing or two to say about it?

It makes no more sense to ask this question of a pro-lifer than it does to ask an advocate of abused women to dedicate their attention to something else, rather than butting into the private business of other people’s relationships. If you feel something is a wrong thing, you should feel safe and secure mentioning it—or fighting against it. This “shut up and mind your own business” mentality is little more than a weak attempt to blot out the opinions and thoughts of others. It is something akin to a creationist plugging her ears in science class and saying “na na na na, can’t hear you.”

It’s also not entirely dissimilar to the same creationist dismissing the case made by the evolutionist/science, simply because she—the creationist—finds the case to be offensive to her world view. Rather than questioning the legitimacy of her own world view, she seeks to blot out competing ideas. In short, it is an act of cowardice and deliberately self-induced ignorance. Suicide of the intellect.

The natural course of things would be as follows:

A woman becomes pregnant, she either naturally aborts or gives birth.

A claim is made that the organism developing within the womb is not A.) alive, B.) human life, C.) a person, or D.) entitled to life.

The burden of proof is on those individuals making the claim.

So my question is this:

Rather than waste time and money trying to silence serious, legitimate objections to abortion, why not offer an argument to back up your own claim, examine secular arguments against your position, and sufficiently provide evidence to reasonably prove that the organism within the womb is not what you say it is not.

I think it is perfectly acceptable and reasonable for a person to question a claim regarding the nature of the developing organism within the womb, when that claim is unsupported by anything of credible substance, but popular opinion and tactical appeals to emotionalism.
